Jane Austen: A Survey.
"Dealing with the literary and other sources of Miss Austen's Novels in a more systematic way than has hitherto been attempted, and including a detailed study of her artistic method." Thomson [1867-1934] was a British author and educator who wrote the first full biography of Samuel Richardson in 1900, credited with bringing Richardson back into popularity, years before tackling Jane Austen. Thomson has access to books that give her insight into Austen's influences, in addition to the Memoir and Life and Letters, naming in the Preface Mrs Bellas (Anna Lefroy's daughter) as the source of an annotated Lord Brabourne's Letters, and other family details. While this book contains biographical information, it is focused on the inspirations for Austen's works, including extended family, social issues, and especially literary influences such as Burney and Radcliffe. Book is near fine with no marks. Cover is good with some chipping around edges and two stains shown, in mylar. 1st Edition. This book came out the same year as Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own.
