Papers pulled together and edited by Richard Arthur Austen-Leigh. RAAL had access to collections of letters and family memorabilia. The book includes a genealogy and extensive inroduction. Chapters are by topic of the papers included (i.e. Steventon 1770-75) and are each given a conversational introduction. Covers family history topics such as Austen's great-grandmother's struggles as a single mom, the Hancocks and Eliza de Fuellide, Mrs Leigh Perrot's trial, the Stoneleigh inheritance, Edward's succession to the Knight properties, with an ending chapter on American reception of Jane Austen. There are 10 chapters, 5 appendices, and 11 pedigrees. Very good in soft boards. Hinges holding up but top inch of both front and rear inner hinge paper is torn in the fold. Previous owner signature and a different previous owner small plate pasted in front. Front cover with slight soft bends. Spine slightly darkened.
