Wynne [1778-1857] started her diaries at age 11. She wrote in French, German, and later in English, as her family lived abroad when she started them. She married Royal Navy officer Thomas Fremantle, a close associate of Nelson, who fought at Trafalgar among other important battles. Her diaries are acclaimed for showing the life of an English family abroad and in general, from a daughter's point of view. Her two sisters also wrote. Edited by Anne Fremantle.
