Napoleon and the Invasion of Britain.
With contributions by Katrina Navickas. This book accompanied an exhibit at the Bodleian Library June 2, 2003 to October 31, 2003. In the summer of 1803, Napoleon had conquered much of Europe and seemed primed to move on his remaining unconquered foe, Britain. The invasion of Britain remained a goal from early summer 1803 to autumn 1805. Britain had not been invaded since 1066, nonetheless, the threat was real, especially given that a large part of the army was busy defending colonies. A huge percentage of the population of Great Britain and Ireland volunteered for this defensive effort. This natonal mobilization was accompanied by political cartoons and broadsides, some spontaneous and much loyalist propaganda. This collection includes beautiful images of published materials, books, cartoons, broadsides, ledgers, coins, in brillian color printed on heavy paper in a large (8 1/4 x 10 inch) paperback edition with faux jacket flaps. A great history book with several sections of text as well as context and descriptions for each item presented. Bodleian Library. Like new. University of Oxford. 2003. Paper. USED. $40.00
