Life in Letters of William Dean Howells. 2 Volumes.

SKU: 18015

Edited by Howells's daughter Mildred Howells. She published this book 8 years after her father died as a biography of his literary life. Two large volumes of letters, biographical information, context, and information. Howells [1837-1920], famously to us a great Austen fan, was an author and literary critic who served as editor of The Atlantic Monthly and was an important part of the literary world of his era. He was a lifelong friend of Mark Twain. There is much more to Howells's life and Mildred took care to select letters to show a wide variety of his interests and activities. Very good for age in brown cloth to spines and gray cloth to boards with paper labels to spines. Top pages with bright gilt. Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc. 1928. Hb. USED. $75.00
