What the Victorians Made of Romanticism. Material Artifacts, Cultural Practices, and Reception History.

SKU: 17464

Victorian popular media kept alive the works and lives of Romantic era writers. Mole shows how reputations of Lord Byron, Felicia Hemans, Walter Scott, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and William Wordsworth were sustained and transformed through material culture. Illustrated books, statues, incorporation into sermons by preachers, postcards, photographs, collectibles, and new anthologies all helped create a new national pantheon from Romantic authors. Naturally, the dead writers were recruited to address current concerns, reimagined for new audiences. The process continues. The cover and book are in excellent condition but there is quite a bit of marginalia and underlining. List $49.95. Princeton University Press. 2017. Hb, DJ. USED. $12.00
