Unpublished Letters from the Collection of John Wild.

SKU: 11606

Letters collected by John Wild, selected and edited by his great-grandson R. N. Carew Hunt. Wild began collecting letters shortly after the Napoleonic Wars, and by 1855 had a very large collection from important people from England, France, and Germany from the 16th and 17th centuries to heavy representation in the 18th and early 19th centuries. This small selection includes letters by Byron, Shelley, Queen Caroline, Richardson, Sterne, Captain Cook, Mrs. Garrick, Lady Hamilton, and more. Hunt transcribed these letters preserving the spelling. There are two facsimiles, otherwise all are only in transcribed form. Spine darkened. Very good condition, very clean. Lincoln MacVeagh, The Dial Press, New York. 1930. USED. $10.00
