Ruskin [1819-1900] was a polymath and critic who contributed a great deal to modern thought during the 19th century, especially regarding bases for building the ideal society. He is sometimes credited with anticipating aspects of modern environmentalism and respect for nature. Professor Wheeler points out Ruskin's reliance on his trust in divine wisdom in the development of his natural theology, his Seven Lamps, and other famous works. Wheeler is well-known as an expert on 19th century England. Among his many accomplishments, he directed Chawton House Library for a time. This copy is almost like new with an immaculate cover.
