Preface and Editor's Introduction by N. John Hall. Trollope wrote this book in 1855-6 but it was not published until Oxford University Press published it in 1972. He covers the people, the press, law and physic, the army and navy, the church, both houses of Parliament, the crown, society, literature - topics that he dealt with in his novels.
