This is the first edition with Hugh Thomson illustrations pubilshed in 1894. Original covers, although the gilt of the peacock decorations is a little faded, but as you see in the photos, still shines under a light. Some foxing. Slightly cocked as is typical with these books. All page edges gilt, still bright. Minimal foxing. Title page tissue paper has been replaced by a modern non-acid tissue paper to minimize further darkening of the illustration. Green end pages and other pages all original. No owner's previous names. Unusual for these editions, only one small penciled mark inside front endpaper.
