Holburne Years.

SKU: 17412

Sydney Gardens in Bath, where Jane Austen often walked while her family lived across the street, is the only 18th century public pleasure garden ("Vauxhall") remaining in Britain today. The Sydney Hotel, built along with the gardens, is now the Holburne Museum, displaying modern and historical works of art. Bishop tells of her experiences throughout her 50 year involvement with the Holburne Museum, and shares interesting stories about the people of Bath who dedicated time and effort to maintaining this national treasure. The frontispiece is a b&w image of an 1805 aquatint that shows how the front of Sidney Housel looked when Austen lived there. Millstream Books, Bath. 2009. Paper. NEW. $6.00
