This unique modern printing is based on the 1st bound edition published in London by Egerton in 1811, preserving  the original dashes and commas, the only corrections being "obvious typograhpical errors." With an endearing afterword taken from C.S. Lewis's essay 'A Note on Jane Austen' (1954). Lewis examines the 6 novels in the canon from the perspective of her view of disillusionment, morality, religion, loneliness, honor, and other values, very succinctly. In the process he calls Kipling's short story 'The Janeites' his "worst story." Lovely dj. Very good condition. Courage Books, Running Press. 1996. Hb, dj. USED. $20.00
