Jane Austen's House - Chawton. Greeting Card.

SKU: M19711

From the original watercolour by Heather Simmonds R.M.S. Simmonds has painted over 700 charming local English scenes. She perfectly blends colors and images to capture beloved locations. Here we see the cottage in Chawton where Jane Austen, her mother, sister, and best friend lived during the last eight years of Austen's life. Here, in a flurry of activity, she polished and published two of her early novels, wrote and published two more, acquired and polished another, and wrote her last finished novel, the last two published after her death. Without this cottage where Austen was finally given the means and time to write, we would not have these novels and our world would be different. Today as Jane Austen's House, the cottage is a restored museum that brings visitors from all over the world. Simmonds has captured the icon for us to share as a keepsake or gift. Reproduction is hand mounted on the front. Card is blank inside. Roughly 6 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches. NEW, $5.00
