Letters of Anne Thackeray Ritchie.

SKU: 11309-1

Hester Ritchie, Anne's daughter, selected and edited this compilation of letters that includes 42 additional letters from William Makepeace Thackeray, Anne's father and Hester's grandfather. Anne [1837-1919] was a popular author in late Victorian England and thus continued her father's legacy. She was immersed in the world of literary giants and her letters are fascinating both for her depictions of her own life and for information about her world. In keeping with the literary theme, her step-niece Virginia Woolf, wrote her obituary for the Times Literary Supplement. Illustrations in the book were drawn by Anne or her father W.M. Thackeray. Good condition. Top and bottom of spine chipped; some marks on the cloth cover. Previous owner's name with 1930 date and Convent Library bookplate inside front cover.  Family history, index, and publisher's advertisements. First reprint of first edition.
