The Wynne Diaries, Volume I 1789-1794.

SKU: 11794-1

Elizabeth Wynne Fremantle [1778-1857] began keeping diaries at age 11. After financial difficulties, her parents moved the family abroad in 1786. The family fled Italy during the French invasion in 1796, rescued by Thomas Fremantle, whom Elizabeth married a few years later in Naples, at the house of Sir William and Lady Hamilton. Her husband was a distinguished officer in the Royal Navy present at Trafalgar. Their children grew up to be interesting. These early diaries record the life of an English family abroad during the 1780's and 90's. No jacket. Spine is sun-faded. Oxford University Press. 1935. Hb. USED. $15.00
