Toklas [1877-1967] was the life partner of Gertrude Stein. She was an American who left for Paris after the 1906 San Fracisco earthquake, where she became a member of the Parisian avant-garde. Stein and Toklas ran a salon that attracted authors and artists. This is a memoir of her time with Gertrude Stein and includes their friendships with Picasso, Matisse, Laurencin, and many more artists and writers.
