A Trilogy. Flora Thompson was born in 1877 in a small hamlet in Oxfordshire. Her trilogy about life in the English countryside was first published between 1939 and 1943. Here it is presented in a single, lusciously illustrated volume. The text is "abridged" - passages that were necessarily repeated when printed as separate volumes have been carefully excised (marked by ellipses). This is a lovely rendition of Thompson's largely autobiographical novel that almost reads like a memoir. "Laura" grows up in a world that had largely disappeared even when the books were first published.
