General Editor's Preface by Nicholas Plumley. Introduction & Additional Notes by Reginald Watters. This is a novel from the 18th century, perhaps first published in 1770. This book is transposed from a 1789 edition. Pictures of some of the people mentioned in the book and of Christ's Hospital around 1725 (book's setting time period) are included. Original notes at the end of each volume are included, and there are endnotes created for the 1987 edition. The decision not to produce a facsimile was made so we can enjoy reading the book, and it's OK not to have to read s's that look like "f." Christ's Hospital School was created during Henry VIII and Edward VI's reign as largely a charity school given the poverty without social support that followed the dissolution of the Catholic church in England. This novel is an interesting part of the public school's legacy.  The Christ's Hospital Papers III. 1987. Paper. NEW. $25.00
