Previous owner's name in front endpaper. American novelist, famous in his own day but not be confused with the subsequently famous British statesman. A best-seller, he wrote in the late 19th and early 20th century. This novel deals with Progressive politics and was published serially in Hearst Magazine in 1912 before being released as a book in 1913.
