Tacky's War: The Story of an Atlantic Slave War.
SKU: 17980
The Jamaican slave uprising of 1760-61 is presented as part of the broad world entangled in a forever war in the second half of the 18th century. Complex societies at war in Europe and Africa met in the Atlantic slave trade and resulting constant rebellions of enslaved people in the Americas. Some African people famously had military experience to draw on in the continuous struggle for freedom and for the right to carve out a good life in the American colonies. Tacky's Revolt had major effects on the British Empire, and is also seen as an influence on warfare with its scattered militias and acts of terror, familiar today. Harvard University Press. 2020.
