Edited with Introduction by Barbara Hardy. The last novel by George Eliot [1819-1880], first published in installments in 1876. Eliot explores the world of English Jews, a society-within-society that was neglected or held in contempt by many of her contemporaries, in her only novel set in her own time and place. Her heroine Gwendolen Harleth marries an awful man for wealth, and perhaps wish she had married Daniel Deronda. Deronda eventually finds his mother and discovers he is Jewish, which encourages him to marry the woman he loves.  Endnotes. Lightly creased spine. Penguin Classics. 1986. Paper. USED. $9.00
