A Rhetorical Grammar, or Course of Lessions in Elocution (1785).
"In which the common improprieties in reading and speaking are detected, and the true sources of elegant pronunciation are pointed out." Originally published in 1785, this is a very thorough instruction for reading aloud and speaking. There are sections on topics like when to pause in a complex sentence, and all sorts of sentences, and when to pronounce the letter "e," where to put the stress on a word in a sentence and which word to emphasize. There are sections on the uses of colons, semi-colons, periods. We're not accustomed to reading when the "s" looks like "f" to us, so it's not the easiest thing to read but worth it. Facsimile. Part of the Anglistica & Americana series. Like new, appears never read. Georg Olms Verlagsbuchhandlung. Hildesheim. 1969. Hb. USED. $45.00
