Lady Rose Weigall: A Memoir Based on Her Correspondence and the Recollection of Friends.

SKU: 14029

Lady Rose [1834-1921] grew up in the world of Court and power. When her father was assigned Ambassador to Germany her upbringing became international. Her family was close to the Duke of Wellington. She met Princess Victoria when a child and lived to mourn Queen Victoria's death. She lived to see the end of WWI. Her husband was a well known Victorian artist who painted Disraeli and Wellington. She spent much of her married life at a country house where she dedicated herself to charity. Her daughter's memoir relies heavily on her mother's own words from letters she wrote and allows Lady Rose's personal style to come through. This is a special edition in red leather with gilt trim and 5 ribs on the spine, and top pages gilt. Plates of Lady Rose, Duke of Wellington, the Weigall country home. Pages are yellowed. D.
