Scott [1893-1963] became the secretary of the Louisiana Women's Suffrage Party at age 17. At age 20, she ran away with a married man twice her age and lived with him in remote areas of Brazil. They returned to settle in Greenwich Village in 1920, where Scott began her literary career with Escapade, an autobiography of that period of her life.
