St. Paul's in the Grand Parade.

SKU: 17982

Through her naval brothers, especially Charles and his wife Fanny, Jane Austen would certainly have known quite a bit about Halifax. St. Johns, organized in 1749, was the first Protestant church in Canada, the first cathedral of the Church of England outside of Great Britain, and the first Palladian style building constructed in Canada. Today it is Halifax's oldest surviving building and remains central to the community, as it was in the Austens' time. In this fully illustrated book, Emsley shares the history St. Paul's, intertwined with the history of Halifax, as well as the fine architectural  features and lovely furnishings.
