Beatrice Webb (nee Potter) [1858-1943] and her husband Sidney Webb, 1st Baron Passfield [1859-1947] were English socialist economists intensely interested in social reform. Beatrice conducted social research using the scientific method. Her husband helped found the London School of Economics and was an MP. Both were members of the Fabian Society. Beatrice wrote this book, which covers the social movements of the 1880's and 1890's, after World War I. The war had shaken her faith in progress of humanity, and she turned to autobiography. Originally published in 1926. Second edition, n.d.  No jacket but very good condition. Longmans, Green and Co. Hb. USED. $35.00
