The Brighton Garrison 1793 to 1900.
The author, who spent 6 years in the Territorial Army, started this project when he found his old home Preston Barracks were being torn down. When the remaining buildings on the site were also demolished, he looked for history of the garrison and found there was not a central location where documents were kept, information was scattered and often missing or inaccessible, and as a result, he immersed himself in researching and gathering, and putting together this record. There are maps, contemporary illustrations and photos (b&w), and a ton of information. The section ond 1793-1803 will be especially interesting to Jane Austen fans, with information on the first encampment, names and details of regiments, military news, camp art, dancing and music, the 1795 mutiny. and more. The sections on the different locations will help the visitor to Brighton locate where events would have happened long ago. Published by author. 1997. Stapled 87 page book approx 12 by 8 1/2 inches.
