The Book of Margery Kempe: A Woman's Life in the Middle Ages.
SKU: 14996
Introduced and edited by B. A. Windeatt. Preface by Alice Thomas Ellis. Illustrations by Chris Daunt. This is the oldest surviving biographical work in English. It was lost for centuries until rediscovered in 1934. This remarkable woman had a wild medieval life, with visions she couldn't keep to herself that got her accused of being a heretic, a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and other travels, and meetings with many of the most prestigious figures of her times. Kempe was illiterate but dictated her memoirs in old age. This edition is near fine in a NF slipcase. The Folio Society, London. 2004. USED. $30.00
