A massive book (11 1/2 by 9 by 2 1/2 inches). Burgundy pebbled cloth. Gilt title. 667 pgs plus foldout map pasted in the back. Originally published in 1901. Packed full of b&w illustrations. Very slight fading to the spine and a little bumping at top and bottom, otherwise in beautiful condition. Social history addressing everything from church to clothes to the French Revolution.
