The Novels of Jane Austen in Ten Volumes.
Illustrated by political cartoonist Alfred Wallis Mills [1878-1940]. Mills's illustrations were first published in 1908. Introduction by R. Brimley Johnson in the first volume of P&P. This 1925 edition has a panoramic illustration inside the covers of front and back of every volume, in addition to the illustrations in each book. The illustrations are Regency but also, some have an early 20th century feel. A previous owner signed a front page in each volume, dated October 3, 1928. Covered in handsome green cloth with embossed floral gilt decorations and titles on the spines. Some light foxing. Light wear on top and bottom spine ends. Spine cloth is slightly sun faded to a bluer tint of green. We did find a couple of bumped corners and a page with a light tear. Overall, this set is handsome on the shelf. Large print, easy to read, with delightful, colorful illustrations. George G. Harrap & Co. Ltd. London, Calcutta, Sydney. 1925. USED. $775
